The photo of Lee Miller in Hitler's bathtub went around the world. Few people know, however, that the photographer was just one of several female war reporters accredited by the US Army during the Second World War. For the first time in history, there was a female perspective on the "male trade" of war.
Luzia Schmid portrays three female war correspondents: Lee Miller, Martha Gellhorn and Margret Bourke-White. She uses only their photos and texts - embedded in official Allied film footage - and the result is a view of the war that focuses on the victims rather than the heroic deeds.

grimme-preis 2024: We are particularly pleased to announce that "DREI FRAUEN - EIN KRIEG" has won the Grimme Prize 2024 in the Information/Culture category and the Marler Group Audience Award!
We are delighted to have been honored by the Grimme Institute and would like to thank the expert jury and the audience jury from the bottom of our hearts. Our congratulations go to the entire film team and all those involved who made this extraordinary success possible.
The Grimme jury says: "Lee Miller, Margret Bourke-White and Martha Gellhorn have literally made history. With an unerring instinct for the sides of the war that are not mentioned in official military statements, they broaden our horizons. (...) The concentration of the three reporters on the victims of the war, which the film consistently reflects in its images, prevents any glorification of the events. Heroes are nowhere to be found here. Against the backdrop of today's wars, 'Three Women - One War' is also a topical commentary and a plea for peace."
